Famous for tea plantations that provide tea with a special natural aroma, Munnar was once the summer home for the British colonial rulers of India. Munnar is close to Thekkady, and a few other favorite tourist destinations. Anamudi, the highest peak of South India is also very close to Munnar. Devikulam lake provides opportunity for sightseeing as well as boating. In Rajamalai Wildlife sanctuary, one can see elephants in their natural home.

Eravikulam national park that protects Nilgiri Tahrs is also the only place where Neelakurinji, the flower that blossoms once in 12 years, is found. Mattupetty Lake, Top Station, and the Indo- Swiss Cattle Breeding centre are other favorite destinations of people who visit Munnar.
